“Italy, and the spring and first love all together should suffice to make the gloomiest person happy.” (Bertrand Russell)
Think Tuscany has the prettiest hilly landscape? Think again: these are the hills behind Castel San Pietro/Dozza, about 45 minutes from Bologna. I spent this beautiful spring day of Pasquetta exploring them on foot. ☀️

A day outing from Bologna: the beautiful Valsamoggia, to be explored on foot! (with @cooperativa_madreselva & @spiritoverde )
The Fountain of Neptune was erected between 1564 and 1566, when Pope Pius IV decided to give the Bolognesi something they did not yet have: a public fountain. However, residents soon began using it for other purposes as well, namely for washing their clothes and/or the vegetables bought at the nearby market. In 1588, a ban was put in place to prevent such uses, and in 1604, the fountain was fenced off, basically taking away the function for which it was originally built. Today, it is one of Bologna’s most famous monuments. Read all about its history in the link in my bio.
Homemade passatelli in brodo, a typical Romagna dish, is just what is needed on cold days like these 👌🏻 Passatelli are made with eggs, breadcrumbs and Parmigiano and eaten in a hen broth. Very comforting!
